Heavy Rain Leaves Big Puddles

The rain stopped for a while this morning, and the clouds lifted enough to see that there was fresh snow in the gullies and on the lower slopes. The tops, however, remained out of sight.

As usual the rain was not as bad here as elsewhere. I recorded 41mm over a 24 hour period. In the same period Christchurch had almost 70mm and Akaroa out on Banks Peninsula had 165mm. This is a lot for Canterbury, but on the other side of the mountains the West Coasters can get more than that in five minutes.

One year ago: A storm on the tops, one of my favourites.
