When the going gets weird

After Saul

Day two of the conference was busier, certainly with members of the public,  falling on a weekend when people actually had time off to visit. Again, some very interesting speakers. I saw less of the talks than the day before, spending some of the day flyering people on Bricklane and some of it lending a hand on Tif Hunter's tin type demonstration.

That was a real pleasure. There are quite a few people working with the wet plate collodion process but often seems to be a bit hit and miss. Tif, Like a true master, made an extremely difficult process look easy.

After the day's events at Beyond the Lens, I headed across town towards the Atlantis Bookshop. The heavens had opened and rain was lashing down, leaving me pretty bedraggled.

Atlantis Books is a fascinating place. It was hosting a pre-event drinks for the Folk Horror Revival event I was going to be photographing at the next day. It’s Britain’s oldest occult bookshop and has quite a history. We were even given a little tour of their basement where the likes of the Aleister Crowley and Gerald Gardner conducted magical rituals.

As if that wasn’t enough to pack into a day, I then headed North some more to meet Riot and pals in Camden. Nice as it was to catch up with people, the ninety-minute journey home wasn’t quite as enjoyable. Jings. You’d get home from Glasgow faster back home! Brutal.
