Rode Beek

Around 1903, the Red Brook was, north of the Rimburgerweg, partly concealed in a tunnel construction. In this geconbineerde sleeve flowed wastewater from the district Langeberg and Rodebeek towards the Archer Park. The water from the sewage flowed on average 50 times per year in the Red Brook which thus became polluted. In World War II this tunnel was also used as a shelter for the residents of the neighborhood Schuttersveld in Brunssum.

On top of this 300-meter long underground tunnel was later paid a portion of the mine waste tip of the state of my Henry. By partial excavation of the mine waste tip has again emerged the ancient river valley in 2016. Nature can thus recover and Red Brook gets the opportunity to follow its natural flow. The new sewer will hardly overflows into the river (1 time per 5 years), water quality benefits. The contaminated water is not clear when the clean water. A portion of the tunnel under mine waste tip has been retained as a reminder.
