Highland Wool and Textile

I spent some of the morning in the garden as it was nice and sunny. In the afternoon we went to the tip at Dingwall which was shut for lunch when we arrived so we continued on to Strathpeffer. We went for a walk through the park area which was full of wonderful trees with colourful leaves and full of bird song. We went to see the Highland wool and textiles in the Pavilion. Plenty of lovely things. We bought a tiny whisky flask with a Harris tweed cover, some wool for needle felting and a kit to make two Dorset Buttons. The little cottage that we owned in Dorset was once the home of a button maker so it will be nice to have a go at making some.'The Dorset button industry has a long history, originating in the 18th Century in Dorset, England.' They were originally made from a disc cut from a Dorset Horn sheep and covered in thread. The most common pattern being a crosswheel. It looks quite fiddly and to think that the button makers would be working in badly lit buildings, often by candlelight.
We went for a walk at Loch Kinellan, lots of ducks on the water, long tailed tits flitting between the trees and a very tuneful robin singing at the top of a tree.
The tip was open when we went back :)
