Nicky and her Nikon

Hello Heathrow

We had a very good flight home last night on Iberia Airlines and landed early this morning at Madrid Airport. It is an impressive airport - huge, clean and super efficient. We then connected to London and were home by noon after collecting Murdoch from the kennels on the way home. After all our travel woes and visiting so many airports it is appropriate that today's blip is of an airport.

This is one of the courtyards at Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, with the dancing fountains. Terminal 5 was largely designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership and it was completed in 2008. The main terminal building is the largest free standing building in the UK. Its four stories are covered by a single-span undulating steel frame roof, with glass façades angled at 6.5 degrees to the vertical. This is why the right hand wall in this scene looks out of line but that is how it is designed. The area covered by the roof is the size of five football pitches, and each section weighs 2,200 tonnes.

Back home and the washing machine has already spewed out many loads of laundry, the fridge has been filled after a visit to the supermarket, everything is sorted and ready for the start of the week. Murdoch looks like he needs to lose some weight after his holiday in the kennels, but then we probably do too!

Mum has not had a good weekend :(
