Goodbye to Johannesburg

We woke up this morning to a text from BA to say that our flight had been postponed - from 9.05pm tonight to 8.20am tomorrow morning - due to ...you guessed it....problems at the Johannesburg airport. That was not good news for us as it would mean finding another nights accommodation and also that we would get home on Sunday night instead of Sunday morning. Gavin immediately phoned BA and they managed to swap our flight to one with Iberia Airlines (who co-share with BA) via Madrid. It's not ideal as it means having to then connect from Madrid back to London and we get home later than expected but at least we get home on Sunday morning as planned. I won't start ranting about just how inefficient and useless OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg is, but they are having such problems that there was an article in the newspaper the other night to say the Minister of Transport was going to address the inefficiencies they are experiencing and improve the situation, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one, and my advice is to avoid traveling through ORT airport if you can!

This morning Gavin's aunt and uncle (together with his mum) joined us for tea at our hotel which they loved as we are staying at a lovely hotel that has been recently renovated and it has wonderful views as it is on a ridge above one part of the city. This is a view from the terrace of the hotel - Johannesburg is considered by many to be a rather ugly city but at this time of the year when the Jacaranda trees are blooming it is quite pretty with the patches of purple all over the city, as it is very well wooded with many trees everywhere.

We then went to my brother's house for lunch where his partner prepared the most amazing Mediterranean style lunch for us, we had quite a feast. It was good to see them again and now we are at the airport waiting to board the plane.

I spoke to my sister today who was with my mum and my mum was not well today and had a bad day :(
