Lindley Clock Tower

A day with a mixture of site visits and office work meant that time at work passed quickly. I finished the day with a visit to Lindley Library.

The nearby 83 ft tall clock tower  stands at the junction of Lidget Street and Daisy Lea Lane. The Art Nouveau structure was designed by Manchester architect Edgar Wood in 1900 and erected by James Sykes in 1902.

The tower is build of local stone with walls more than two feet in thickness. Figurative sculptures portray the "eternal virtues" on the buttresses. Time is portrayed above the door with the "beasts fleeing from the towers of time" being represented by the gargoyles.
