£1,000 a nip

Yes you read that headline correctly: a £1,000 for a wee dram-or nip- of this 1958 Glenfiddich whisky.

Kate, who works in the restuarant at the Glenfiddich Distillery said last year they had three takers.

Phew! if you think that is pricey how about the sale earlier  this month of a rare bottle of Glenfiddich which fetched  a record sum in Edinburgh of  £68,500

In our "digs" last night we had two chefs flown up from London to prepare a special meal for "bigwigs" ( that's how our landlady described them) at another distillery and they were given a £22,000 bottle of whisky - and they drank it!

At the risk of offending whisky lovers throughout the world I can't help feeling we are seeing a touch of Emperor's new clothes.
