New Forest Pony

We woke to another beautiful day so, after breakfast, we decided to visit Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway.

We had a few stops on the way, one of which was where this photo was taken of a pony.  The New Forest ponies are a feature of the New Forest. Although free to roam and graze within the New Forest boundary they are not wild but owned by Commoners, a term that dates back to when the New Forest was first created in 1079 by King William I.

When we reached Exbury Gardens we had a quick bite to eat (a huge slice of coffee and walnut cake and hot chocolate!) before exploring the grounds.  I think I walked off all the calories by the end of the day! Many of the trees were displaying their gorgeous Autumnal colours, especially the acres and maples.  I've included one in the extras.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped off at The Royal Oak in Beaulieu for dinner. Back at the hotel and a quick shower before ending the night with a drink in the bar.

Another lovely day.

I'm off to Exmoor in the morning for a photography workshop with Light and Land, led by Peter Hendrie so I apologise as commenting may be limited over the next week.
