Our autumnal garden

It has been rather damp all day with thick low clouds smothering the light. I can't visit Westonbirt Arboretum this autumn, which is a break with recent tradition. Instead we make do with the garden's colours as it adapts to the imminent winter.

We also have the wonderful luxury of seeing the woodlands which line both slopes of the Golden Valley. Directly behind these trees at the bottom of the garden are two smaller tributary valleys with the Lime Brook running down to join the River Frome.  When the leaves descend from the sycamore, hazel and ash trees a wonderful view is revealed across to The Heavens and the hamlet of Thrupp. It is a very welcome compensation and lets me look forward to winter just to get the hidden landscape back.
