On the banks of the Allan Water

The Allan Water is  a river rising in the Ochils and runs through Dunblane and Bridge of Allan before entering the Forth river in Stirling.

It is also the subject of a Scottish folksong: " On the banks of the Allan Water"  and in this version its sung by a young soprano from the Birmingham Conservatoire, Davinathe Diva.

We have just been to see the Ken Loach film "I, Daniel". Its very moving and a tragic reminder of all that is wrong with our society and the breakdownof our Welfare State.
Today food banks operate in every town- yet when I grew up they were unheard of. Now they are commonplace.
