Crocus caspius

Hailing from the Caspian Sea area of Iran, this beautiful autumn crocus, flowering with it's leaves, is pretty easy to grow.  It does not like to be kept too dry in summer so when I have raised enough from seed I will try it in the open garden.  Interesting fact ... well to a croconut anyway .... the seed pods never quite see the light of day, ripening just under the soil surface.  In all other species the capsules are pushed above ground as the seed ripens, sometimes on stems over 30 cm long!

Ruth is back in college and we wait with bated breath to see how today went.  Hopefully better than yesterday which had me briefly reaching for the car keys.  First day back meltdown plus after a good evening she 'clicked' her neck after a slip in the bath.  Pain and tingling in her arms ... not a good state of affairs after previous problems with lower limbs.

Will keep you posted.
