Autumn Morning, Charlotte Square

It was a beautiful late autumn morning in Edinburgh which made my walk from my flat to Bute House for Cabinet all the more enjoyable.

I have been walking through the New Town for more than 40 years and love it in all seasons but perhaps especially on cold winter evenings and bright autumn mornings. Today was one of the best of those.

Charlotte Square is where the annual book festival is held. Now the grass is re-laid as soon as the event finishes at the start of September.

Consequently it is hard to tell that just a few months ago this green space was packed with marquees and playing host to thousands, in fact probably tens of thousands , of visitors.
