What Happened to "Yes we Can!"?

Such a long way (down) we have come from the heady days when we elected our first black president. The moment the announcement was made on election night 2008 a cheer went up in our quiet neighborhood and we all poured from our houses into the street, hugging each other and weeping tears of joy. What happened?

I won't even pretend to know the answer, but the politics of divisiveness and fear certainly rank high on the list of how we reached this point of polarization and paralysis. And it didn't start with this miserable election campaign. But since, according to this morning's paper, "82% of voters felt more disgusted than excited about American politics because of this campaign" we can all agree on something, perhaps it will be a starting point for something better.

I'm right down on my knees with Uncle Sam today....
