Niagara 1: Into the Mist

The first full day of our short break at Niagara Falls.  We are staying on the Canadian side, which seems to offer the best views of  both the Horseshoe Falls and the American falls.

One of the standard tourist treats here is to take a boat ride to the foot of the horsheshoe falls, where the spray rises up to at least twice the height of the falls.  Once in the spray you can actually see very little of the waterfall - but you do get very wet, hence everyone on the boat is supplied with a red plastic poncho. I had a waterproof cover on my camera, but pictures of gray spray and mist through a rain spattered lens aren't very exciting!

There are two boats which make this trip. The one from the American side is called "Maid of the Mist" and that is the name that many people would recognise.  The boat from the Canadian side (which we went on) was also, we were told, once called "Maid of the Mist" but now goes under the name "Hornblower". It is "Hornblower" in this picture.

It is much warmer here than we were expecting, and it became really sunny in the afternoon.  We are here for a couple more days and the weather outlook is very good.

The blip looks good full screen on a black background.
