For the fallen

Like many war memorials the one in Paddock Wood was erected to commemorate 49 locals who died during the Great War, the war to end all wars, but had a further panel added for a further 23 who fell in between 1939 and 1945. The latter group includes John Brunt who won the Military Cross followed by the Victoria Cross a few days after his 22nd birthday. He was killed by a stray round the day after the action for which he was award the VC.
