through some exhibits at the home of the former Spanish ambassador -- beautiful place in and of itself with hand-painted tiles from Seville and Valencia.

The exhibit at the back of my blip was sponsored by Blade, Washington D.C.'s gay newspaper, in celebration of its 50th anniversary. It was touching to walk through it and see how far we've gotten in those 50 years and then to realize that some of that progress might just be erased by the incoming administration... Sigh.

Tonite I'm off to participate in a yearly event that takes place during the week-long photographic celebration that is FotoWeekDC: the photo slam. Much as a poetry slam works, this event showcases the work of local photographers to be assessed by five judges but also by the enthusiasm of the audience. There is a first round of five related (or thematic) images which determines whether you make it into the finals (a single image, which may or not be related to the previous five). I won that competition 3 years ago with images of women in Niger and have entered this year with images of the people of Bhutan. Let's see what happens! Fingers crossed :)
