Biergarten

Biergarten Birkenheide near Geisenfeld in the heart of the worlds largest hop-growing region (near Ingolstadt).

Brother & Sister-in-law Gerhard & Siglinde (yes Sigi & not as all Wagner fans would expect the Sieglinde in The Walkuere) invited us to see a gathering of Line Dance fans.

On the property is also a garden centre &  home of our Chabo - Japanese Bantam Chickens.

After having to leave home at 8:30 am, drive 160 km including a large section of the A9 Autobahn Munich-Berlin with loads of northern Germans returning home on the last day of summer holidays, I was more interested in food & drink than line dancing.

Having downed the 1st litre of shandy & tucked away a huge Schnitzel with chips, I spent most of the rest of the day with Andreas the bantam chicken breeder. He gave us another 6 or so young birds that didn't come up to "scratch" for breeding purposes. He also has some guineafowl he wants to "sort out" before winter so it could be we return here at the end of August to collect a pair!

The weather was dry and although the sun managed to break through it remained relatively cool. Not dream beer garden weather but we hope summer will still come in 2012
