twinned with trumpton

So awake at 7; shower and unpack and then along to Duncan's flat for 8; coffee and croissant and various other Spanish bakery pastries for breakfast; we headed out on bikes for an explore whilst the other two went off to Chieste for qualifying.
We headed north to the parks created on the old river bed of the Turia after it was diverted away from the town centre; acres and acres of parks, football pitches, public art works, baseball pitches, basketball courts - loads of joggers and cyclists and dog walkers out and about before it got too hot. So we cycled slowly - I really wanted to get to the Arts & Sciences stuff but it took a while with me stopping every 2 minutes.
But eventually we got there - I ooohed and aaaahed at it all, took a photo of my bruv on his bike and then we headed on down to El Soler for some beach action; a pleasant 20 degrees by now. So we went from slick modern functional buildings to run down allotments, farm land, abandoned logistics depots - bit of a contrast.
Once we were safely out of town and in front of sand we rocked up to a cafe; coffee and toast and chatted a while.
Then found the puncture on my back wheel; so spent the next 2 and a bit hours walking home (nae bother to me; not so easy for Duncan... I let him freewheel down off any bridges to get a couple of free miles in whilst I powerwalked to catch up)
We got home after 2 - Elena had made soup so we piled into that and then a shower / siesta and back out to meet the guys off the train; sat in town and had a beer; went to the Valencia CF shop (short for Tom, scarf for Alex), and wandered home.
Another beer, fixed Martin's bike (leaking radiator), and were out for tapas at Villaplana around 9; including nieces and Cesar the boyfriend of Elena.
Some delish stuff; I'm such a sucker for morcilla y huevos -black pudding, scrambled eggs with pine nuts and broad beans. But so many other great little bites.
And home after midnight; to sleep ahead of mountaineering on Sunday...
