memorial

I meant to take this photo on Sunday when we were at the Dunscore War Memorial after church, but the weather was too driech. Today as I was passing through the village, the sun was shining on it, so I took the opportunity for a blip.

Dunscore is only a small village. The memorial lists 40 men killed in WW1 and 9 in WW2. James Boyes and Robert Boyes are relatives of mine. Their father was my Great Grandfather's brother. I have a photo of them when they were small boys, in 1910, with their older sister Jane, and a younger brother who also fought in the war, but survived to emigrate to Canada.

James was killed in France on 9th April 1917
Robert was killed in Egypt on 13th November of the same year.
