Flat calm....

I don't really 'get' sailing.

All that jargon mystifies me - 'Hoist the mainbrace....' and 'Avast behind!' (although it could be, that I just take that last one personally!)

But I do love looking at boats. Anyone who grows up on the Clyde (or, I should say, alongside it - I wasn't actually raised on a tanker) is used to seeing ships of all shapes and sizes every day.

My dad bought a second hand rowing boat once, and spent an entire winter lavishing attention on her hull, varnishing every board until she gleamed.

My brother managed to sink her the first time she went in the water.

We stuck to ferries after that......
