Autumn Series No 9: Dog Walkers, Sutton Park

Drove for the first time today since the operation.  Needed to get back into the swing of things if I'm going to be able to help Mom.  So, after a quick sprint to the supermarket, it was over to the nursing home to break the news to Mom.  She was stoic about it.  I was glad she was awake and 'with it'.  I was dreading turning up and her being asleep and difficult to wake up and take notice of things.  It can happen.

The staff were told on Thursday, but were instructed not to say anything to residents. After I made them aware I'd told Mom what was happening, a few of the regular staff popped up to see her and shared some time together.  There were plenty of tears.

For many people who work in care homes, a strong bond builds up between them and residents.  It was manifest today.  They will all lose their jobs shortly, with little likelihood of employment before Christmas.  Those that have worked there the longest have the most difficult task in gaining new employment, particularly if they want to stay in the care industry as they will need to go through the full vetting procedure again.  It takes time.

Afterwards I needed some fresh air so popped into Sutton Park, still looking fantastic in its autumn colours.
