St Carthages, Lismore

I had another quick trip to Lismore today to get a few more things for our trip and decided to make this my blip for today.
St Carthages was designed in 1892 by Herbert Wardell, son of Anglo Australian architect and civil engineer William Wardell. The foundation stone was laid in 1892 but construction did not begin until 1904 (I'm not sure why it took this long but probably because of lack of funds). A public appeal raised two thousand pounds for a peal of 12 bells from Dublin.
In 2007 St Carthages was seriously damaged by hail stones and an appeal to restore the Church commenced in 2007 with initial plans to construct the spire which was initially designed by Wardell. However, when commissioning of the works began in 2009 the completion of the stone steeple was ruled out (thanks Wikipedia).
I hope everyone has had a good weekend.
Only 3 days to go........
