Incongruous?

At Christmas, we send cards with beautiful winter snow scenes, log fires, fur trees and sleighs. The reality here is hot sun, parched landscape swimming pools and gum trees.
Walking by the lake today I see the city fathers have attempted to create a festive Christmas atmosphere in the community by installing these enormous decorative balls in our very tall gum trees.  The incongruity of it makes me smile - not cynically, but acknowledging the humour in our efforts to overcome the image of those European Christmases that we have inherited from our forefathers.
Santa needs a surf board, not a sleigh!
