Fledgeling

Here is one of two thrush fledgelings that hang around the front lawn. The other day one of them came indoors while I was working in the garden. I found it fluttering against a window. Since the window does not open far I had to catch it in my hands. The noise it kicked up was impressive, and it pecked angrily at my fingers. It didn’t hurt at all. Judging by the mess it left behind it has been eating well.

For the second night in a row fresh snow fell on the mountains. They were spectacular when the clouds lifted. Today was not like yesterday, when it was so warm down here in contrast to the mountains. Today the nor’wester that rushed down from the peaks was spiked with ice.
