Hot, Hot, Hot

Well summer has really arrived down here in South Devon.  The car parks are full, the ferry is busy, Teignmouth (and even quiet Shaldon) have lots of visitors, and the beaches are full of people doing what they do on holiday i.e. sleep, get sun burnt, shout at the kids and play football - oh yes and frolic in the sea, unbelievable!

We went down to Shaldon to the Clipper Cafe this morning for coffee. Its new, and its very good. Shaldon is definitely moving in an upwardly direction. Property values are increasing; there are five new beach huts next to the Clipper Cafe, they sell for £250,000 EACH!

Popularity brings better cafés, restaurants and interesting shops, but also more people. One of the reasons we like Shaldon is because it is quite and not commercialised in the way Teignmouth is, hopefully it can retain that village feel.

After coffee we took the ferry across the estuary to Teignmouth.  Lunch was on the beach, we cannot remember the last time we sat on a beach, and then a browse around the seasidey shops.  Ferry back and a walk up to the Ness then ice cream at ODE a new ecological café set up this year - even the cutlery is compostable (Vegware).

Colin came for tea so we made pea and mushroom pilau rice with veggie sausages.

The photo is taken underneath Teignmouth pier, with a little tweaking :-)
