Broadstairs harbour

Visited the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate to view the Turner exhibition with friends Al and Liz. Had coffee and lunch there too.

Enjoyed the exhibition, marvelled at his skill, his innovative paintings, his use of landscapes and light. But I found the overall impression was too dark and sublime for my tastes. And, according to the information he was criticised by the art establishment at the time as being too light and bright.

Al and Liz returned home so we walked along the coast from Margate to Broadstairs, a route we have cycled many times. Great sunlight and sharp landscapes and seascapes with both the wind and sun behind us. Arrived in Broadstairs after sunset so was pleased to capture this shot on the iPhone of the harbour in the cold, hard light of early evening. Rather different to the last time we were here on the first day of the summer holidays in July when the local youth were jumping off the harbour walk into the sea.

There was time for a little browse around the shops before catching the train back to Margate, taking 6 minutes to cover the 6 or so miles we'd walked earlier.
