Guards against evil

The sun was falling on these, they stand guard on the desk in our hall, there's a pair of them, small statues, they're a nice representation of the many forms of lion-like guardian statues for temples, houses and deities in SE Asia. Always a mix of fierce lions and other animals and very often more dog-like than anything else.  I think these are Burmese/Thai in style , in Burma/Myanmar they're called chinthe. The currency in Burma/Myanmar has such an animal on its notes. They should scare off evil minded spirits, evil in all its forms.

Evil is what has been happening in Aleppo these last months and particularly right now. With our modern technology and media we can follow everything happening while it is happening, I find it horrible to see, to know what is going on there and not be able to do anything about it. Sure, we can give money to charities involved with the Syrian refugees, collect clothes, food, blankets etc, but we can't stop the utterly ruthless and barbaric violence done to the remaining people in the besieged areas of Aleppo. Even the cease-fire and transportation of those who want to leave won't help them that much, there's talk they will then be transported to the last rebel areas and I'm guessing they can then expect to be in the exact same war-situation in a couple of weeks :-(
Makes me feel helpless and hopeless, how are we going to explain this to the children who may survive?
