My Mum

Sadly my lovely Mum, Doreen, passed away last Monday, 12 December at 8.20pm.

After collapsing at home, fortunately whilst my sis was there, she was admitted via A&E with a dangerously low heart rate, which resulted in the need for urgent surgery, to give her a pacemaker......very risky but essential in the circumstances and initially successful.
A few hours later followed a massive cardiac arrest and two hours with a Crash Team to save her life. They gave her a 5% chance of surviving the next 24 hours.

The six of us visited Wednesday morning thinking we had a decision to make, only to find mum sat up, coherent....recognised us all, by name and sight....we spent a few hours actually chatting and laughing. She was still dosed up and hallucinating, saying some really funny things but she knew it, which made it even funnier.

That was how we will all remember her, as the days that followed saw a gradual decline as our Mum faded away.......pneumonia set in which is what took her eventually.

As anyone who has lost a loved one will know it's so hard to watch their decline. Although the hospital staff gave her great care initially, once we reached that point of no return, they just didn't have enough staff to give mum the time and attention she deserved.

We transferred her to Willow Wood Hospice for her final days, where she received great care, attention, nursing second to none which resulted in her passing peacefully and painfree.

I know you have probably been wondering, so I thought it was time for this blip. The little chrome tree with its new shiny baubles is Mums, she bought it about two weeks before she became poorly. I had been looking for a small tree to compliment our lounge, so sis said you have it, so here it is in all it's glory, very pretty too, together a photo of mum, a rememberanc candle and the sympathy cards we have received.

Thank you to those of you who were "brave" enough to enquire and to all of you who have no doubt been thinking about us......your kindness is touching and warming.

I probably won't blip again now until the new year........so I would like to wish everyone all the best, however you celebrate Christmas and health and happiness for the new year
