Before the long drive north

Up (fairly) early this morning ready for the long drive north. Three hours later we were on our way, breakfast getting all the stuff packed in the boot and everything ready to go out the door always takes longer than planned. We were 40 minutes later than planned getting away.

A lovely morning, a little patchy fog which cleared as we approached the M25 and most of the journey was in good weather. Traffic was surprisingly good, the only hold-up being a few minutes around Cambridge. The weather only changed as we crossed the border into Scotland, heavy squally showers beating down on the motorway, clearing away just as quickly. On the last leg to Edinburgh we had to contend with sleet and deep puddles on the road. But, as always in these long journeys, we arrived safely and in good time, avoiding the heavy traffic predicted tomorrow as well as Storm Barbara.
