The Bird of Britian

The Robin is Britain’s national bird. The UK Council for Bird Preservation conferred the title ‘Bird of Britain’ on the Robin in 1961.

The Robin has been associated with Charity, Compassion, Good Luck, Fire and Death, and is a legend in the folklore of countries all over the world. Stories attempt to explain the origin of his red breast, the most common being associated with the death of Christ. When Christ was crucified on the cross, a Robin flew down and removed the thorn from the crown on his head to relieve his suffering. In doing so, the blood of Jesus stained his throat and chest, and ever since his breast has remained red. Of course, it's also associated with bringing warmth and light  -  I just wish it would bring some here today, because it has poured with rain all day and has remained as dark as dark!  However, this little cardboard Robin has saved my day!  Hope he does yours as well:)
