IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE

Having finished my Street Challenge yesterday, we went to our usual Saturday morning coffee stop at The Old Bank and met many friends there.  When we left, Old Town wasn’t heaving with people, but it just seemed to be those quietly going about their business, until we got to the Co-op car park, where the cars were queuing to get in.  Thank goodness we have finished our grocery shopping.

Because we go over to our son and daughter-in-law for lunch on Christmas Day, it always seems strange not to have vegetables to prepare today, so we shall sit quietly, read and listen to Carols from Kings, which starts at 3 p.m. remembering those we love who are far away for Christmas and those we have loved and lost throughout the year.

This beautiful Christmas bauble was given to me by the teacher friend for whom I knitted the Christmas Nativity set, and comes out every year - as do all the other decorations on our tree.  We are not a family who has to change their tree and decorations to fit in with the fashion colour of the year - because for us Christmas is all about old traditions and remembering and yes, the angel on the top of the tree, in as an extra, is the one made by our son when he first started school forty years ago.

I wish all my Blip friends - and any who read this on Facebook - a very Happy Christmas and New Year - and hope that you enjoy spending time with family and friends.

“Our hearts grow tender
     with childhood memories
          and love of kindred,
and we are better throughout the year
     for having, in spirit,
          become a child again
               at Christmastime.”
