Nkhamenya

11th December 2016:

For eleven years now, our home in Malawi is at Katoto with St John of God Brothers. We are also friendly with the Rosarian sisters.
Nkhamenya is the home village of Sister Jacintha, so she came to the factory to ask for help.

Rose, Harisen and Alfred brought Sr Jacintha with them and drove the 200km to the Border with the Central Region (we live in the Northern Region of Malawi)

NKHAMENYA

I also talked to the Chiefs about the challenges and problems they are facing. They said women wake up 2am to fetch water and come back around 10am, so the distance and then they have to wait for water because there many in the area using one well that has been dug  without cover  they just use string and small bucket, the water they are drinking is not safe because with the coming of rainy season all the waste matters are drawing in the well as a result people are suffering  from  cholera. We went to visit Nkhamenya in Mzimba with the Rosarian  Sister from Marymount, where we find the same problems
Alfred explained to them about digging wells, and the chiefs were happy and welcomed the idea and agreed that they will start digging wells very soon.

There were no women on the meeting, and we asked them why and they said the women were out fetching water. Sister Jacintha advised the chiefs that they should be involving women in all meetings.
