Thank You For the Days ..

A Gleam in the Murk

Surely we've reached the lowest point in the lull between Christmas and New Year? A grey mist  has hung here all day.

TM went out and hacked his way through the rose hedge, so he was due a treat. And there's nothing he likes as much as a nice scone.

So, late in the day we drove up to Melrose (the quilting shop again, 10% off everything today!), and then on to Abbotsford, the baronial pile that Sir Walter Scott built beside the Tweed two centuries ago. Before he bought it, the place was known as 'Clarty Hole', in other words, muddy hollow.  It lived up to that today, down by the river.

Darkness was falling as we slithered back to the spanky new visitor centre. The scones took so long to come we think they must bake them to order. But they were delicious - two (small ones) each!
