On the move...

Post-Xmas backblip 1

After breakfast we packed our bags, piled the car high (our luggage and a few Christmas gifts, but mostly bedding and food...) and set off for Wodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, stopping off in Gainsborough on the way to pick up MrM's son Angus. The blip of Lincoln and its cathedral was taken through the car window as we passed by, on our way to spend a couple of nights with MrM's dad.

Now in his eighties, MrM Senior chooses to live a life of hardship and deprivation - he laughingly calls himself a "stoic"! He's very stubborn and fiercely independent, and no amount of cajoling or argument has yet persuaded him to change. No hot water, no proper heating and, during the week, very meagre rations.

Once there, MrM assisted his dad in cooking a roast dinner - not an easy undertaking, as MrM Senior's oven (one of several basic appliances he owns that's well past its 'use-by' date) doesn't work properly. MrM's nephew joined us for the meal and we had a pleasantly festive evening, helped by a cider or two.
