Diary of an Edinburgher

Loony Dook!

I did manage to see in the New Year, partly due to the excellent TV beforehand - 'Wha's Like Us?' It was full of clips from just about every Scottish film ever made, or even with a Scotsman in it (the Simpsons, Shrek). And I slept well.

Bailey and her mum were going Loony Dooking at North Berwick, but we decided to go to South Queensferry instead this year. I always love being near the Forth Bridge - it's so majestic. And what fun it was!

It was a crisp winter's day, sunny but cold. VERY cold if you didn't have many clothes on.

Hundreds A thousand swimmers, all in daft costumes, were gathering near a brilliant drumming band, ready to parade through town then jump into the sea! Check out the man in a bathtub .

Archie had good fun, and we met three schnauzer puppies, and three standard schnauzers. Common Popular dogs!

We didn't follow the swimmers along to the beach (I'd had to walk quite far from where they made us park, so I was too puggled), but we nipped into a new (to us) Harry Ramsden's and had a super fish and chip lunch (under £10!). After the dook, crowds of folk started arriving, lots of folk going into the toilets to put their proper clothes on before having lunch. It was mobbed when we left.

What a grand day out. And Archie wasn't sick in the car. We all snoozed for the afternoon.

Happy New Year everyone!
