A Living Building!

Today Marylee and I paid our first visit to the Hitchcock Center's superb new building; the director took us on an hour-long tour from top to bottom and end to end.   As a Living Building, the structure is entirely self-sufficient, using natural systems: to quote the center's website, "it is net zero energy, net zero water, has composting toilets, and has been made with responsibly sourced non-toxic materials." The blip shows an central hall with the rainwater collecting and processing system; no other water is used in the building.  Many walls carry displays that explain the building and the myriad aspects of nature that it exemplifies. It is altogether a fascinating experience.

I will return in July for my annual show of  bird images for the summer nature campers--it will be a new experience!
