Tattenham Corner

Tattenham Corner is a sharp downhill bend on Epsom Racecourse, home of The Derby. I wouldn't be standing here on race day as the horses come thundering round the bend. Most of the time Epsom Downs is a broad open space, a magnet for walkers, and there are long views to the north. The area was pastureland before Lord Derby started racing horses there in the late eighteenth century. Eventually a railway was built to transport the race goers. Now Tattenham Corner is the terminus on the commuter line and a suburban area has grown up called, inevitably, Tattenham Corner!
We were out for a pub lunch, and visited a hostelry known to us since our teenage years. It has now grown, like so many, from a local pub to a huge eating establishment. The food was good, I expect we will go back.
