Walking in Chile ...

If you enlarge the sign in the middle of this photo, you'll see that it tells you this is Chile - or at least the Chilean forest part of Benmore Botanical Gardens. When we went a walk this midday (times go a bit strange in short days when you get up late and have no huvtaes) the fine mist/rain/hill fog that surrounded us looked quite convincingly Chilean, as did the alien forms of all the monkey-puzzle-type trees just over the horizon. I was also struck by the almost monochrome light, and by the silhouettes of the trees in this shot.

My extra photo - I never realised the number allowed would be topped up
each year - is of the neatly-stacked pieces of a tall pine that we watched being stripped of its branches ready for felling about a fortnight before Christmas. You can see the wonderful colour of the wood, but I'm afraid you'll just have to imagine the heady scent ...
