Hazelbrook Underpass

A few days back I blipped a Katoomba Street mural by Michael Lynn. Here he is again with some 2010 street art at the Hazelbrook railway underpass. According to the nearby plaque this represents an original photograph of the nearby Terrace Falls, shot in 1904. The plaque (like so many of these things) seems a less than well considered affair, because it attributes the "original picture" to Ken Goodlet who is a local, contemporary historian. Ken, no doubt, owns the print that inspired this mural but he could not possibly have performed the original camerawork. It might have been nice to know the name of the actual photographer.

You may remember that the previous Michael Lynn work was based on an old Harry Phillips photograph. Given the similarity of this image to a good many others which Harry took, it seems not unlikely that this work may also have been based on the latter's work. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the actual pic on the web so far.

The extra image shows the mural from a different angle, revealing how it fits in with the immediate infrastructure.
