Fluffed Up

Irwin the Kookaburra fluffed up and happy basking in the sunshine in his aviary today. Lovely to visit the falconry team and see how the birds are doing.

Irwin and Hogan the Kookaburras were fluffed up and Irwin was chortling away. See a video here. Hannah the falconer told me that the birds fluff their feathers to stay warm but it's also a sign they're contented.

Slightly less happy were the barn owls Woody and Buzz screeching away. Woody is a bit under the weather so is in quarantine while she takes her medicine. Her brother Buzz was most put out at being separated.

Dougal, a white snowy owl, looked sleepy sat on his perch until he noticed me taking his photo and started chatting away. He's always loved the camera!

Merlin the white faced cops owl tested out a new aviary today and looked so teeny in the big new aviary. Sadly the photos didn't really work due to shadows from the low afternoon sun. I promise to get some decent shots soon to share with you.

Mozart, a European Eagle Owl, is mid-moult and broody. He was chirping away calling for a mate. He's not the only one in the mood for love either...the mild weather has put the swans into a frenzy and breeding season is already starting around the estate.
