Gearing Up

When we lived in the United States the week after Christmas was one of returns and exchanges, but here in Mexico shopping is still in full force. In fact, mañana is El Día de los Reyes (Three Kings' Day) for which Mexican children typically receive gifts - many times something with wheels. That means that the streets around our market are filled with stalls selling all kinds of toys. Things were just getting set up this morning as I made my grocery run, by mid-day this sidewalk will be virtually impassable with vendors on both sides and shoppers in the middle. Following this the holiday season will officially be finished and things will mostly return to normal with only the American and Canadian "snowbirds" adding extra people to our population.
