Early morning light around the bay

The sun was shining when I drew the curtains this morning. I pottered off to brew a cup of tea for us both, and while the kettle boiled I went into the back garden to look out over the loch. The buildings are perched beside the single track road which leads around the bay to this house. This view looks towards Mull, whose high peaks you can see shrouded in the clouds in the far distance, a short ferry ride away from Oban. We hope to go over there in the next day or two.. This promontory keeps the bay on Loch Etive protected from the open sea, as the tide has to flow in through the narrow Falls of Lora. The falls are generated when the tide level in the Firth of Lorn drops below the level of the water in Loch Etive. On the ebb tide, the seawater in Loch Etive pours out through the narrows, which are themselves spanned by the spectacular and historic Connel Bridge, built for the railway and road to connect northwards to Fort William.

The sun continued shining all morning and I went back to the garden and shot birds for much of the morning, including a curlew again daintily walking from rock to rock looking for fish and other beasts in the shallows. This afternoon we visited Helena's sister M. and her family, and we went to Trallee beach for a short walk through the sand dunes with Flora, Helena's niece. Sadly the light had gone back to grey under the thick clouds, so our photography was limited.

We are off to dinner this evening with Helena's uncle and aunt and her cousin, so I'm blipping early. If another shot comes up I may well change the view.
