The Little Things

This morning has been so wet and grey. The fog has overflowed the valley onto our bluff and diffused the landscape. The world is monochromatic outside the windows. I ventured out briefly and was instantly drawn to any little splotches of color in the grey surrounds.

These are Hawthorne berries. Though you can make a medicinal tea or jelly from the berries, the seeds contain a cyanide compound (as do apples) and are poisonous, so be sure and spit out the seeds. Besides, the berries  leave a bad after taste, so it's not recommended to eat them off of the tree.
