Garajau & Cristo Rei

We have often seen this statue, erected in 1927, from afar, viewed from Funchal at sea level, but today - during our sixth holiday in Madeira - we finally caught a #155a bus to Garajau and walked up to see it at close quarters. It is impressive, as are the amazing views from the top of the promontory point. Also spotted a couple of Clouded Yellow butterflies (Colias croceus), and finally caught a snap of one. Their yellow looks much more vivid in flight. The Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) I photographed on our way 'home'. We were at Garajau early and enjoyed clear blue skies and hot sunshine - the best of the day as it's since clouded over - too cloudy to see the full moon!

Thank you for all the kind comments on yesterday's lizard.
