Spread Your Wings

'Spread your wings and fly away ......'

Powerful, fierce and magnificent they swirled round my head twisting and diving - the now not so rare red kite saved from extinction by one of the world's longest running protection programmes. So very striking not just because of their size, this adult will have a 5/6 foot wingspan,  but also because of their forked tail which is very different from any other raptor, whilst their feathers are simply stunning rufous colours. I personally love their piercing eyes, really keen and alert which they need to be when scavenging for food.

This adult is tagged with 2 black wing tags which means it speaks Welsh ;)
