Amazing

One of the great sights of nature. The murmuration of starlings.

The first thing is to try to establish where it is going to happen. There are a number of reedbeds within two miles of home. This year they are using a different one from the one where we got pictures a couple of years ago.

Arrive at a possible viewpoint at least half an hour before dusk. As the light begins to fade groups of Starlings will begin to arrive from several directions. Some will be hundreds and others groups of thousands.

The they will give there spectacular sky ballet for perhaps twenty minutes before they all drop down into the reeds for the night.

Taking photographs is a challenge. The light level is low. And if they come near to you the movement leads to a blur.

Here are two of my attempts. One the main blip and a second as an extra.
Its an exciting display. There are articles in Google about the science of how they do it. It is believed that each bird is reacting to the movement of the seven other nearest birds.
