A view from St Swithin

Glen Callater and a brush with Royalty

We walked up Glen Callater today in bright and snowy conditions . Its about 3 miles from the road up to the bothy and lodge where  Loch Callater comes into view . Lots of evidence of new tree planting since I was last here and the MBA Bothy now has a new roof and was a cosy retreat for our soup and sandwich. Lots of grouse around but no deer that we could see . I think this is the first decent dump of snow the Braemar area has had this year and hopefully the ski station will now be in operation .
Just as we neared the cars on the way back we spied 2 large Range Rovers and Prince Charles . Looked like he was trying to strap on a pair of cross country skis - I understand this is one of his favourite ares for walking . We left him to it and did not engage HRH or his protection officers in any banter .
