Life in Newburgh on Ythan

A silken cocoon

I first photographed this little bundle of silk attached to a dwarf willow in the late summer of 2015. I then brought it home to see what might eventually emerge from the silken cocoon; a moth perhaps, maybe a host of baby spiders.
Today I lost patience and having taken a final photograph I took the scissors to it and opened it up. Inside there were dozens of dead, dehydrated baby spiders. Clearly our conservatory wasn't the ideal habitat!
