Station Sculpture

Bud Neill's 'G.I. Bride'  character from the Lobey Dosser series is depicted with her baby Ned, trying to thumb a lift from Calton Creek in Arizona back to Partick.  She was one of many Scottish women who emigrated as war brides after World War II. This bronze sculpture was erected in Partick Station in 2011 created by Ranald MacColl.
Bud Neill was an artist who drew cartoon strips for Glasgow newspapers between the 1940s and 1960s. Following his death, his work has attained cult status with a worldwide following. A typical Bud Neill caption would read "Ony o' youse blokes goin' the length o' Pertick?" - meaning 'Anybody going a reasonable distance?"  Bud Neil was born in Partick, as was the famous comedian Billy Connelly.
